FAQs

What is the difference between a Pledge and a Gift?

A gift is any amount given by a supporter. A pledge, however, is any amount a supporter promises, or pledges, to give over time. Our campaign runs through June 1, 2028. If you choose to pledge, consider what you might be able to contribute over the next 5 years and consider pledging that amount. Through the online pledge campaign form, each supporter will be able to set the pace at which he or she follows through on giving towards their pledged amount.

How do I make a one-time gift?

If you’d like to make a one-time gift, select the “As Can” option on the online pledge campaign form and fill in the amount you wish to give.

You may also pay by check, made payable to Downtown Church with "DC Building Fund" in the memo line. They may be dropped in the offering box on Sunday morning or mailed to P.O. Box 3923, Memphis, TN 38173.

Do we have a signed contract yet for 480 Beale St.?

Yes, we have a signed contract for 480 Beale St. However, the leaders of Downtown Church are currently in the process of drilling down on the costs of renovating the building, as well as the long-term costs of operating the building, and assessing whether it is wise to move forward in purchasing this property. We ask that you bathe this process in prayer, and that the Spirit would give wisdom and discernment to our leaders.

How long will renovations take to complete?

Renovation is estimated to take approximately 4-6 months, depending on how much renovation is required and when renovation begins. Our hope is to have the purchase and renovation completed by December 31, 2023.

What is the plan to address the possibility of debt?

Downtown Church is currently debt free. Achieving our $3.5 million goal in both cash and pledge commitments by June 1, 2023, will help us minimize debt, though some may be required to bridge the difference between cash received now and cash pledged in the future. The Session and Building Committee have already formed a Stewardship Committee to consider the various financial scenarios and make recommendations on the most prudent path forward. We will continue to wisely steward the church’s finances as the Lord continues to bless our church.

What if our plans fall through for 480 Beale?

Our current capital campaign is not specific to 480 Beale. Street Ministries has been and continues to be a gracious host, but Downtown Church has been asked to identify its next home as soon as possible. If our plans fall through for 480 Beale, the Session and Building Committee will therefore be stewarding the funds raised toward our continued search for a future home.
